Britain's Queen Elizabeth II congratulates dog
Jul 14, 2006, 13:33 GMT
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II congratulated a dog on its achievements during a party - thrown to celebrate heroic members of society.
The unusual occurrence took place during a recent ceremony at Buckingham palace - which recognises the efforts of people, who have overcome various personal and social hurdles.
Over 8000 guests arrived at the bash - hosted by the Queen - to exchange experiences and discuss new ways to improve their own future and that of their communities. According to Britain's Hello! magazine, the monarch was busy greeting the crowd, when she was approached by an eager four-legged guest. Golden Retriever Gracie was at the event with her owner, Gary Flather, who suffers from multiple sclerosis. Gary - a passionate campaigner for recognition of the disabled - praised his canine helper for having seen him through many challenges. He jokingly added that Gracie had helped him with the hurdles of his life like the Queen's Counsel barrister would. The gathered guests spent the afternoon enjoying tea and cake on the palace lawn, while the Queen made her best effort to meet everyone present. She was later joined by Prince Charles and his wife - Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
