Prince Charles calls to minimize climate change
Jul 13, 2006, 15:43 GMT
Britain's Prince Charles has called for more action from UK businesses in minimizing climate change.
Heir to the British throne gathered leaders of country's biggest businesses during the Business in the Community annual Awards for Excellence ceremony, in London, to raise more awareness of global warming.
In his address to 1500 guests, Charles referred to the climate problem as 'the biggest challenge facing us all'. He was quoted in 24dash.com as saying: 'I happen to believe climate change is the greatest challenge facing us all. 'Indeed, it was described recently by a United Nations report as 'a chemical experiment humans have been conducting on the atmosphere for the past century and a half'.' The royal also urged his audience to spare no effort in 'minimizing' climate change, not 'adapting' to it. He said: 'I don't know about you, but I find it mystifying, to say the least, that on all sides we hear of the need to adapt to climate change, as if business can be carried on as usual. 'But the priority must surely be how we minimise the changes to our climate. We should be very wary indeed of those who use discussion about adaptation to defer ever having to do anything about the cause of the problem.'Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
