Britain's Prince William has run a mile to raise money for the Sport Relief charity.
The 24-year-old royal, who described the event as 'awesome', completed the race on Saturday (08.07.06) at Sandhurst Military Academy, where he is training to be an army officer.
According to Britain's The Sunday Express newspaper, William even joined in the warm-up by dancing to 'YMCA' and the official Sport Relief single 'Don't Stop Me Now'. After finishing the course - which included scaling 8ft high walls - in 14 minutes and nine seconds, he said: 'I really enjoyed the day. It's awesome. I hope that everyone gets involved wherever they are.' The prince was joined by cyclists, hockey players and tennis enthusiasts - who kept up a continuous rally, as they completed the course. Ghurkhas in full military dress, cadets, towing a truck and mothers, pushing prams, also took part. Fifteen hundred people completed the race on the first day of Sport Relief, which raises money for vulnerable people in the UK and the poorest countries in the world. William and the rest of the competitors each donated £2, raising more than £3,000 in total.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
