Britain's Queen Elizabeth II puts dresses on show
Jul 10, 2006, 12:54 GMT
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II's most spectacular dresses are going on show for a special 80th birthday exhibition.
According to Britain's Sunday Express newspaper, 80 stunning gowns - dating from the 40's to the present day - will be displayed at the State Rooms in Buckingham Palace, later this month (07).
The most prominent designers to feature in the exhibition - entitled 'Dress For The Occasion' - are British couturiers Norman Hartnell and Hardy Amis. Highlights of the show include a kingfisher blue silk dress the queen wore for the late Princess Margaret's wedding, a bejewelled satin gown designed for a state visit to Nigeria and a gold tissue and lace number worn in New Zealand on the Commonwealth tour in the 50's. Since taking the throne in 1952, the queen has made 256 official visits to 129 countries. The royal reportedly has her outfits specifically created for each individual state visit and the host country's emblem and colours are often incorporated into the design. The queen's personal assistant and senior dresser, Angela Kelly, helped to curate the exhibition, which runs from July 26 to September 24.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
