Queen Elizabeth kept waiting by Chef
Jul 6, 2006, 14:12 GMT
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II awarded TV chef Gordon Ramsay an OBE - a National achievement award - yesterday (05.07.06).
The infamously fiery Scottish cook joined 90 other recipients for the investiture ceremony, held at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Although Ramsay managed to tame his temper throughout the ceremony, he kept the monarch waiting for nearly an hour, due to his flight being delayed. He was quoted in Britain's Daily Express newspaper as saying: 'I was getting nervous when we were on the runway for an hour. My flight was 55 minutes late in taking off but we arrived OK.' Gordon was one of the chefs competing to design the main course for the queen's 80th birthday celebration, but lost out to fellow Scot Nick Nair. Ramsay added: 'I said I would have come up with a better main course but I didn't rib her about it. Nick can have his pride of place.' At the ceremony, the chef was accompanied by his wife Tana, his eight-year-old daughter Megan and his mother. After the official event, the queen spent two hours greeting guests at her annual royal garden party, accompanied by her husband, Prince PhilipCopyright 2006 BANG Media International
