Jul 5, 2006, 16:01 GMT
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II held an audience with Scotland's First Minister yesterday (04.07.06).
The monarch spent half an hour with Jack McConnell at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, as part of her annual week of royal engagements in Scotland.
The royal then held separate audiences with the president of Estonia Arnold Ruttel and the Lithuanian president Valdas Adamkus. Today the queen will host a garden party for hundreds of guests in the grounds of her official Edinburgh residence. According to the BBC website, she is also due to present Scotland's top law official - Lord Hamilton - with a specially commissioned mace, which serves as a symbol of judges acting with the authority of the Crown. The traditional ceremony dates back more than 500 years but it has been over a century and a half since a monarch has formally presented one. The queen continues her engagements tomorrow, when she will officially open The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards' Regimental Museum at Edinburgh Castle.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
