Jul 4, 2006, 15:49 GMT
Britain's Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, is to open a new surgical centre in Scotland today (04.07.06).
The royal has travelled to Edinburgh to open the doors of Quincentenary Hall - part of a £14 million medical development at Edinburgh's Royal College of Surgeons.
The prince is also the patron of the college hospital. The new centre - which forms a part of the hospital's Surgeon's Hall complex - will be used for training purposes. According to BBC website, the development - which covers three floors - also has a conference area and meeting rooms, equipped with audio and visual necessities. John Smith, president of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, said the new complex would help the hospital build an international reputation. He said: 'Quincentenary Hall will enable us to significantly extend our education and training services to surgeons and dental surgeons and build on our worldwide reputation.' He also added that the new extension will attract more visitors to the college. He said:'In addition, with over 60 per cent of UK conferences catering for around 150 delegates, we are hoping that Quincentenary Hall will allow us to attract new audiences from outside the medical profession, including UK and international conferences, conventions, meetings and exhibitions, to the college.'Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
