Charles and Camilla visit the Scottish Parliament

Britain's Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles, paid their first visit to the Scottish Houses of Parliament yesterday (30.0.06).
The royal couple were given a tour of the modern building and, according to the BBC, both described the design as 'intriguing' - despite Charles being a vocal critic of contemporary architecture.
They were then escorted to the members' restaurant for an evening reception celebrating 30 years of the Prince's Trust Scotland.Prince Charles gave an address on the work of his charity and suggested it could become a model for a national scheme for community service.
He said: 'I promise you that makes an incredible difference to young people.' The royal engagement was part of Charles and Camilla's first official tour as a couple in Scotland. They began their tour at Castle Douglas where they toured Lily Jewellery, a small business run by 25-year-old Jenny Scot, started with help from the Prince's Scottish Youth Business. Ms Scot said: 'We gave Camilla a handbag and a scarf, a necklace and a pen and she joked she'd have to hide it from her daughter as she always nicked her stuff.'prince and the Duchess then travelled to Broughton House in Kirkcudbright to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the National Trust for Scotland, of which Charles is a patron.
The royals also stopped off at Johnston Primary School where they presented five pupils prizes for winning a competition to design a display for the garden at Broughton House. Before heading up to Edinburgh they found time to travel to Craigmillar where the couple chatted with youngsters involved with a conservation programmed at Niddrie Burn.
