Royal tea party
May 25, 2006, 15:20 GMT
England's Queen Elizabeth II is to throw a party for two thousand children at the Buckingham Palace.
The children were chosen in a national ballot and will visit the royal residence for a special birthday tea party on June 25.
Although the Queen had her real 80th birthday on April 21, her official birthday is on June 17. According to BBC news, the guests at the garden party will also be treated to a live show to celebrate children's literature. A host of famous faces from children's stories will be there including Winnie the Pooh and Thomas the Tank Engine. The children will be accompanied by an estimated 1,000 adults.A handful of the purple invitations are set to be personally handed out by children's TV character Postman Pat.
Pat left Buckingham Palace yesterday (24.05.06) in his Royal Mail van, after picking up a sackful of invitations from the Palace's livery messenger Paul King.
He is set to travel across the UK including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, Manchester and the Isle of Wight to personally deliver the invites to some lucky children.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
