Prince Harry takes up army training to become troop commander
May 22, 2006, 14:49 GMT
London - Britain's Prince Harry started training as a troop leader Monday as he embarked on the next stage of an army career that is likely to be followed up with deployment in conflict zones such as Iraq and Afghanistan.
The 21-year-old prince, who is third in line to the throne, joined Bovington camp in Dorset, south-west England, for armoured reconnaissance training.
Cornet Wales, as he is now known, will eventually command 11 soldiers and four Scimitar tanks.
Prince Harry, who has himself said he hopes to see action on the front line, will spend four-and-a-half months at the camp, the Ministry of Defence in London said.
His regiment, the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals, has regularly been deployed to the front line in areas of conflict.
Harry completed his officer's training course at Sandhurst Academy, near London, in April.
