Charles' concert success

May 22, 2006, 13:59 GMT

A host of celebrities joined Britain's Prince Charles to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his charity The Prince's Trust at a special concert on Saturday (20.05.06).

The British heir was accompanied by his sons Prince William and Prince Harry and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, for the historic concert - the first ever to be staged at the Tower of London.

The 4,000-strong audience were treated to an impressive line-up of acts, while those who couldn't get tickets watched highlights on ITV.

The Bee Gees opened the show with their classic hit 'Jive Talking' and star upon star followed, including Lionel Richie, Pink, Ozzy Osbourne, Annie Lennox, Will Young and the Sugababes.

The Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, stole the show with a blistering set and caused a stir even when he was off the stage.

He was clearly heard shouting from the wings when a video focusing on people who had benefited from the trust was played.

A spokesman for The Prince's Trust - which helps disadvantaged young people - confirmed the show was a great success, saying: 'As well as raising awareness of The Prince's Trust's work among seven million ITV1 viewers, early indications show that the event will raise in the region of £3 million to help change young people's lives.'

The evening's performers, along with stars such as Sir Roger Moore, Stephen Fry, Jerry Hall, Richard E Grant, Philip Schofield and Sir Trevor McDonald, attended a pre-concert reception held at Clarence House early in the day.

'James Bond' actor Sir Roger Moore expressed his support for the organisation, which has helped half a million people since 1976.

He said: 'The Trust is special because it is an organisation that gives help to so many who need it, who would otherwise be ignored.'
