Beatrice's election win
May 19, 2006, 15:26 GMT
Britain's Princess Beatrice has been elected head girl of her school.
The 17-year-old - who has a learning disability, dyslexia, which affects her reading and writing - was voted in by pupils and teachers at St George's School in Ascot.
She will represent the school in the community and will be given additional responsibilities at school. A school spokesperson is quoted on The Royalist website as saying: 'This year the school has elected Princess Beatrice of York to be head girl and we are delighted that she has accepted the position.' The teenager's parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, have said they are thrilled. Andrew told Britain's The Sun newspaper Beatrice had 'done a hell of a lot better' at school than he did. He added: 'She is a first class student and has been an absolute star in the school community. 'This is in recognition of all she's done over the years.' Sarah, who split from the prince several years ago, said it was a 'great achievement'. She said: 'I'm immensely proud - particularly as Beatrice has had to battle dyslexia.' Beatrice, who has a younger sister, Princess Eugenie, 16, is also said to have phoned her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, to tell her the happy news.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
