Charles opens brain unit
May 16, 2006, 14:39 GMT
Britain's Prince Charles and his wife Camilla have opened a state-of-the-art brain injury unit at a hospital in Northern Ireland.
The royal couple - who recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary - also met staff and patients after they had officially unveiled a plaque at Musgrave Park Hospital.
One patient, Susan Abraham, who suffered a brain haemorrhage during a fall, said the prince was 'very understanding'. She is quoted on the UTV website as saying: 'He told me he also had a fall. It was a riding accident while playing polo and he said he could understand how a head injury affects your functioning in general. 'He was very interested in my own memory and thankfully it's quite good so it's obviously coming back.' Charles and Camilla, who were enjoying their second joint visit to the country, later toured the facility. They will carry out other official engagements before leaving Ireland. Earlier this week, Charles spoke of his duty to help people in need. During an interview to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his charity, The Prince's Trust - which helps disadvantaged young people - the prince spoke of his responsibility to Britain's youth. He said: 'It would be criminally negligent of me to go around this country and not actually want to try and do something about what I find there. I think that's my duty to do so.'Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
