Royal horse race visit
May 12, 2006, 16:07 GMT
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Phillip attended the first day of the Royal Windsor Horse show yesterday (11.05.06).
The royal couple were there to lend their support to Lady Romsey, who was competing in the dressage competition.
But, according to Britain's Daily Mail newspaper, the day of fun reportedly turned bitter for the Queen. The monarch - who turned 80 last month - was allegedly unimpressed when her husband became deeply engrossed in conversation with the 52-year-old competitor while she sat waiting in her car. An onlooker said: 'The Queen looked very serious and didn't hang around. Lady Romsey was first up and the Queen left again as soon as she finished the event. 'Lady Romsey seemed very pleased with her performance. She was very animated when she finished.' The Duke's close friendship with the lady has been a source of gossip over the last two decades. They both share an enthusiasm for equestrianism - this being the first year Philip has not competed in the Windsor event - and have been pictured enjoying each other's company on a number of occasions.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
