Prince Charles' Romanian visit
May 11, 2006, 18:12 GMT
Britain's Prince Charles enjoyed a private visit to a Romanian village this week.
The royal travelled to the village of Miclosoara, Covasna County on Tuesday (09.05.06) after accepting an invitation from landowner Laknoky Tibor.
According to playfuls.com, during his two-hour walk of the area the heir to the throne, who was accompanied by two friends, met with mayor Nagy Istvan to discuss, among other subjects, local traditions of the Szeckler and Hungarian communities. The mayor revealed the prince was also interested in how locals view the European Union. He said: 'He wanted to know whether there was any euro-skepticism among the locals and I said there wasn't because we, Hungarians, are on Europe's side and we want to join the union as soon as possible.' The prince - an avid gardener - was invited into the home of one local to enjoy a traditional meal of bread and palinca but before he enjoyed the food he was interested to find out about the harvesting techniques used in the area.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
