William's 'Posh' nickname
Apr 25, 2006, 17:13 GMT
Britain's Prince William has been nicknamed 'Posh' by cadets at Sandhurst Military Academy.
The future king - who is enrolled on the officer training course at the world-renowned academy - was given the title because his voice is so genteel.
An insider is quoted in Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: 'William is one of the genuinely posh lads there, hence his nickname. It was first coined by some of the lads in his intake and it's meant with affection. 'But let's be honest, it's not very imaginative, is it? I mean, he's the heir to the throne and belongs to one of the richest families in the country so of course he's going to be posh.' The 23-year-old's younger brother Harry - who passed out of the military academy and became an officer last week - was given the nickname Taff while he was training. A source said: 'Because Harry is such a high-profile member of royalty and he was the first brother at Sandhurst, fellow recruits were reluctant to call him names. 'But the instructors called him Taff. It's really a nod to his surname and seemed appropriate.'Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
