Queen's trip to theatre
Mar 30, 2006, 13:07 GMT
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip, took a special taxi to a London theatre on Tuesday evening (28.03.06).
The royal couple were on a private trip to the Victoria Palace Theatre to see 'Billie Elliot', the hugely successful musical by Elton John, based on the award-winning British film.
Rather than arrive in a limo, the royal couple turned up in the Duke's own taxi.
Philip has owned the London cab for years and uses it to drive himself around. The green car has been converted to run on environmentally-friendly liquid petroleum gas, which emits low levels of toxic exhaust fumes.
The queen, who will be 80 next month, could be seen entering the cab smiling, and clutching a programme of the performance under her arm. Onlookers at the theatre said the couple appeared to enjoy the musical, which tells the story of a boy from the North East who takes up ballet against a backdrop of the miners' dispute.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
