Charles has new woman in is life
Mar 15, 2006, 14:50 GMT
Britain's Prince Charles has appointed his first female royal equerry.
The heir to the British throne and his wife Camilla personally picked Squadron Leader Jayne Casebury for the position, which is traditionally filled by a man.
The 36-year-old - who joined the RAF in 1995 after qualifying as an English teacher - will now accompany the royal couple to their official engagements. She will also be responsible for organising their public diary once she takes up the post in April. Casebury's parents, James and Doreen, are quoted in Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: 'We were sworn to secrecy and now it's come out we can finally tell everyone how extremely proud we are. She's done very well for herself. 'We're just a humble working-class family and I can't believe she's done so well. Jayne was always the high flier in our family but we never imagined she would rub shoulders with royalty.'Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
