Charles and Camilla meet troops
Mar 7, 2006, 16:55 GMT
Britain's Prince Charles and his wife Camilla have met with the widow of a paratrooper killed in Iraq.
The royal couple expressed their deepest sympathies when they met Kate Holmes, whose husband Captain Richard Holmes was killed by a roadside bomb last week.
Charles, who is colonel-in-chief of more than 20 regiments, and Camilla also met with troops bound for Afghanistan during their visit to the 3rd Battalion's barracks at Colchester in Essex. They talked to soldiers about their upcoming mission, and heard about the living conditions for soldiers in Afghanistan. L/Cpl Austin Fitch told Britain's Telegraph newspaper: 'The Duchess was very interested in what we would be wearing and carrying out there. 'She was asking what type of material our battle dress was made of. I didn't know. All I knew is that it's a lightweight material we wear in hot climates.' Charles wore military gear for the visit although Camilla wore civilian clothes. According to Hello magazine, Camilla will be expected to wear uniform when she attends engagements with her own regiment, the 4th Battalion.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
