Queen's concern for family of murdered Soham schoolgirls
Feb 24, 2006, 18:29 GMT
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II asked how the families of murdered Soham schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman were coping when a Cambridgeshire policeman received his MBE.
Detective Chief Inspector Gary Goose, who helped investigate the murders, dedicated his honour to the victims' families.
He revealed that the queen asked after the well-being of Holly and Jessica's close relatives. He is quoted in the Cambridge Evening News as saying: 'She remembered how the families had suffered dreadfully and she asked after their progress. I told her they were progressing in the right direction and hopefully they would continue to do so. 'But I don't think there's ever an end to that type of issue.' He added: 'I feel very honoured to receive the award. I suppose in part it should really go to both families from the Soham investigation for the way they conducted themselves. In many ways, it's dedicated to them. They deserve the highest praise.' Det Chief Insp Goose was a member of Operation Fincham, the inquiry into the girls' deaths. He said he was satisfied when Ian Huntley was jailed for life in 2003 but hoped one day the double child killer would reveal what actually happened.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
