Prince Harry pelted with raw potatoes
Feb 6, 2006, 14:50 GMT
Britain's Prince Harry was pelted with raw potatoes by his army friends - as part of an exercise to teach him how to deal with riots.
Soldier Harry got a potato bashing in an ambush during a key exercise near Sandhurst military academy.
He was pelted and directly hit with the potatoes by 'rioters' played by other officer cadets. A source at the exercise is quoted in Britain's The Sun newspaper as saying: 'I think it is safe to say Harry got particular attention from the other cadets. He certainly had a few bruises.' The 21-year-old royal - who joins the Household Cavalry in September - was part of Exercise Broadsword at the Army's mock village at Longmoor training camp. It is designed to teach cadets how to deal with terrorists and rioters - and is regarded as the most critical part of the 44-week course. The officer cadets take it in turns to be army 'goodies' and terrorist or rioter 'baddies'. To give the fake riots an authentic feel, large containers of potatoes are scattered round the street for the baddies. One source said: 'Harry was put into the goodies team first but was delighted when the roles switched. 'He relished his go at being a baddie - and certainly got his own back.'Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
