Prince Charles champions alternative medicines
Feb 2, 2006, 22:47 GMT
The Prince of Wales today urged a group of award winning National Health Service managers to encourage research into both orthodox and complementary medicines to treat patients.
Charles - who is President of The Prince's Foundation for Integrated Health - was speaking at a ceremony to honour NHS services that have made an outstanding contribution to patient care.
The prince presented awards which recognise excellence in NHS care to medical staff. After presenting the awards, the royal praised the winners for their imagination and willingness to do things differently. He went on to say: 'Orthodox medicine has obviously achieved truly wonderful and remarkable things, certainly throughout the 20th century. 'But it is not 'the end of the matter' as they say. 'People with long-term disease rarely get better and how they perceive their treatments - in terms of how pleasant it is or how effective it is - actually matters greatly. 'We know that patients would like the choice of a complementary as well as an orthodox approach to their problem. 'I just would urge all of you who are at the forefront of innovation, to support initiatives which encourage objective research into integrated approaches to health care.'Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
