A tacky Diana doll on sale in the USA has accidentally renamed her the Princess of WHALES.
The 12in talking 'action figure' comes in packaging littered with spelling mistakes, including the bungled version of her official title.
The toy - dressed in a white skirt and jacket - has 16 phrases, in Diana's own voice, which can be played by pushing a button in the doll's back. But with its disjointed ankles, garish make-up and unconvincing hair, it bears little resemblance to the late princess. The smiling figure says: 'I'd like to be a queen of people's hearts' and 'I want to do good things'. Marketed as a one-off to honour Diana's memory, 10,000 of the £18 figures have been made. Texas company Time Capsule Toys claim they are dedicated to producing the highest quality products. Their range includes versions of President Benjamin Franklin, Nelson Mandela, Moses and Jesus. The doll is the latest piece of memorabilia based on the princess. Other tasteless tributes have included T-shirts, tea towels, scented candles, lottery scratch-cards, dog food and ink drawings of Diana dressed as an angel and standing on the cupped hands of Christ. Officials of Diana's Memorial Fund have accused some manufacturers of behaving 'like vultures'.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
