Prince Harry's army party
Jan 27, 2006, 20:09 GMT
Britain's Prince Harry is joining an army unit famed for its love of partying, it's been claimed.
The 21-year-old is set to join the Blues and Royals section of the Household Cavalry when he leaves Sandhurst Military Academy in April.
The Windsor-based unit is notorious for its drunken antics, and is well-known for its love of extravagant dinners and glitzy bashes. The regiment has also reportedly been hit by scandal over drugs and sex orgies. The Blues and Royals was even dubbed the 'Booze and Royals' after a string of drunken incidents, including two soldiers drinking themselves to death and a horse allegedly being forced to drink alcohol before it was due on parade, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper. Yesterday (26.01.06) it was revealed Harry could be posted to Afghanistan after signing up to the Household Cavalry. A squadron from the regiment is set to fly to Afghanistan to battle Taliban terrorists and the handsome royal was said to be desperate to join them. A Clarence House source was quoted in Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: 'Harry is determined to go. He can't wait to prove himself. 'Now the final decision on whether to send him is down to his superior officers.' A Ministry of Defence spokesman confirmed Harry, who was also considering joining the Welsh Guards, could be sent to the troubled country, saying: 'If he joins the squadron after Sandhurst, he'll be off to Afghanistan.'Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
