Prince Charles visits Sheffield
Jan 26, 2006, 15:28 GMT
Britain's Prince Charles delighted well-wishers in Sheffield yesterday (25.01.06) when he dropped into the city for a royal visit.
The prince went on a walkabout, showed children he knows all about Harry Potter, and even chatted up a group of middle-aged ladies with a wink and the line: 'You're not all students at the university, are you?'
Hundreds turned out to welcome the prince to the city centre for a visit to an exhibition of Islamic treasures at the Millennium Galleries. Dressed in a three quarter-length mustard winter coat and grey striped suit, he smiled and looked relaxed as he joked with crowds who greeted him outside the gallery. Security was tight as the prince met the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Roger Davison and his wife Catherine, before entering the gallery for the exhibition. The Prince is patron of the 18-month-long Festival of Muslim Cultures, which began yesterday with the Palace and Mosque exhibition in Sheffield. The show, which has already visited Japan and the USA, features treasures from the Victoria and Albert Museum's renowned collection of Islamic art.Copyright 2006 BANG Media International
