Prince William takes aim at Sandhurst fast-tracking
Jan 16, 2006, 12:46 GMT
Britain's Prince William has got off to a dazzling start in his army career - beating dozens of fellow cadets on the rifle range.
The handsome royal, who enrolled in officer training at the world-renowned Sandhurst Military Academy a week ago, also beat the other recruits in cross-country running.
An insider said: "He has made a brilliant start. He got a very high score."William also came first in a four-mile cross-country run on the second day. It was a surprise even to him because he did not think his stamina was at its best. He also did a long run with a heavy backpack, climbing obstacles, and was in the top two or three."
Instructors are so impressed with the 23-year-old they are reportedly considering fast-tracking him, so he would be level with younger brother Prince Harry, who started at the academy a year ago.
The source said: "William has done very well on academic tasks as well so there is discussion about him being fast-tracked to a more advanced level of officer training. The top two or three new cadets can be moved on if they impress.
"William is certainly doing that - and he could catch up with Harry."

Agreed, most people who enter Sandhurst actaully have to have a degree first
Do some research before you post utter bollox. 120 Ucas points and a few C Grade GCSE's is all you need to get into Sandhurst academically, although with just that you probably wont get into a prestigious regiment(Guards, etc)unless you have a glowing report at Sandhurst. Furthermore William did very well at the RCB, this was reported in the press, and I know people who did the RCB with him, and they were impressed. I have no idea about The Princes been given special treatment(besides extra security) but they, just like everyone else go through the same Drills etc, and they have the added pressure on knowing that they have to impress, they are being monitored at every point so they have to constantly impress, you should be congratulating William for his efforts rather then scolding him.

i am currently 17 years old and wish to join the prestigous sandhurst military academy and must say i am very irritated to the special treatment the royals (william and harry) are receiving during their stay. harry has private staff working for him doing his washing and ironing as well as other duties potential officers are expected to perform themselves and that some tasks have alledgedly been 'watered-down' due to their heritage. it also seems that harry and william are spending more time skiing than soldiering. quite frankly i think that they did not pass the selection board fairly and would also be as bold to say that they were let in to sandhurst regardless, because lets face it william and harry seem as tough as a wet paper towel.
