Prince William to face feared sergeant at Sandhurst
Jan 3, 2006, 19:59 GMT
Britain's Prince William is to be "broken in" by one of the most feared sergeants at Sandhurst when he begins his military training this month.
On his arrival at the renowned college, the 23-year-old prince will be put under the watchful eye of Colour Sergeant Nathan Allan - who has a reputation for dishing out harsh punishments.
Cadets at the elite academy say Sergeant Allen is even stricter than tough-talking Vince Gaunt, who was in charge of younger brother Harry during his first year of training.
A source told Britain's Mail on Sunday newspaper: "William has drawn the short straw with Nathan Allen. He's known for not suffering fools and he's incredibly strict. He insists on doing everything by the book.
"The cadets in his charge are always impeccably dressed. He's especially tough on timing and tidiness.
"Bunks are inspected every morning, if there are any clothes on the floor he will throw them in the bin and if you're late you will be punished."
William will face a gruelling first few months at the college.
New cadets must take part in a variety of gruelling training regimes to prove their fitness, while one of his first assignments will be a testing trip to the Andes.
The source added: "William will be trekking and learning to survive in freezing conditions."
