Britain's Prince Andrew went for a ride in a light armoured vehicle during an official visit to a military camp in New Zealand.
The prince, who is fourth in line to the British throne, was shown around the Trentham camp in Wellington before hitching a lift on the vehicle. Afterwards, he climbed onto its roof, entered its command turret and re-emerged with a helmet on his head.
Following the tour of the facilities, the prince - who has carried the figurehead title of Colonel in Chief of the Royal New Zealand Army Logistic Regiment since its formation in 1996 - ate lunch in the officers' mess.
Royal tour guide Captain Dougal Barker said the pair chatted about the vehicle "and what it provided the army", according to a report on New Zealand's One News.
The Duke of York's trip to Trentham was part of a four-day visit to the country.
He will also visit the 3rd Logistic Battalion on exercise in the Nelson region.
On Saturday (01.10.05) he will open Nelson's Battle of Trafalgar bicentenary celebrations and attend a short dedication for the new $70,000 west end windows at Nelson's Christ Church Cathedral.
He leaves New Zealand on Sunday (02.10.05).
