Britain's Princess Anne meets AIDS workers in China
Sep 23, 2005, 14:19 GMT
Britain's Princess Anne met with AIDS workers on a visit to east China's Anhui Province.
The princess was in Anhui to see the work of the Save the Children Fund. As the head of the institution, the royal hoped the fund could further promote children's interests in China, including their education needs and HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.
The princess observed several of the organisation's projects and talked to HIV/AIDS prevention volunteers.
Afterwards Anne met with Wang Jinshan, the governor of Anhui province. Jinshan told the princess how the country appreciated her support of the children's welfare project in Anhui.
The princess said she hoped experimental projects in the region would eventually spread throughout the province.
Anne has already met with China's vice president Zeng Qinghong as part of her trip to China.
She talked with the Chinese vice president about strengthening ties and improving relations between China and the UK.
Zeng Qinghong noted that China and the UK will host the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games respectively, which would offer the two countries even more opportunities to interact and co-operate.
He said: "I hope the Beijing and London Olympic Games will become two of the most wonderful sports events with their own characteristics."
