Queen Rania of Jordan visits poor
Sep 23, 2005, 14:15 GMT
Queen Rania of Jordan has visited one of the country's poorest villages. The beautiful royal took time to meet residents of the small town of Jaber, who told her about their impoverished living conditions.
The Queen visited one family home, where she pointed out the need to study the health and educational needs of local people to improve their quality of life.
She also made a trip to the village's Jaber Al Sarhan Comprehensive Secondary School for Girls.
Students told the Queen how they needed better outdoor facilities, as well as an improved learning environment, according to The Jordan Times newspaper.
The monarch then toured the local health centre, prompting her to speak out about the need to upgrade facilities and run health awareness programmes.
Earlier this month, Queen Rania was made an honorary citizen of Milan. The stylish royal was honoured in the Italian city for her work to promote peace and human rights.
Queen Rania, who was presented with the accolade by Milan mayor Gabriel Albertini, said she was "very proud" to accept citizenship.
