Princess Diana death probe continues in France
Sep 6, 2005, 6:31 GMT
A candle-lit dinner between Britain's Princess Diana and a famous French television anchorman is being investigated by Paris police.
Poivre d'Arvor, one of the best known faces on TV in France, publicly owned up to "a romantic evening" with the late princess in a book entitled 'Confessions'.
French investigators now say they intend to pass on their findings to Royal Coroner Michael Burgess, who is behind a massive probe into Diana's death.
In the book, d'Arvor refused to say whether or not he had sex with the princess but admitted: "I had a candle-lit dinner with her and then we went off for a walk together around Paris. Just the two of us. And there was nobody around to bother us."
French police are curious about the confession and now plan to call the broadcaster in for questioning about his relationship with Diana.
A police official is quoted by Britain's Sunday Express newspaper as saying: "We don't suspect that Mr Poivre was involved in the Princess' death in any way. But, to satisfy British public opinion and the coroner, we have to probe all angles."
The meeting between Diana and Poivre appears to have taken place some months before the princess' death in Paris in August 1997.
