Princess Diana's record collection bought at car boot sale?
Aug 23, 2005, 12:14 GMT
A record collection that experts believe once belonged to Britain's Princess Diana has been bought for just £6 from a car boot sale.
There are 27 vinyl discs in the collection and each one is signed "Diana". The handwriting matches that of the late princess and experts have agreed the records could genuinely have belonged to her.
Veteran DJ Paul Gambaccini was hired to catalogue Diana's record collection after her death in 1997.
He said: "The records would fit very snugly into the collection I saw at St James' Palace.
"It was custom for the Spencer children to put first names on their records to make it clear which record belonged to which child. The signature on the discs is similar to that on a letter Diana wrote to me."
The record collection includes Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and John Denver, as well as classical music by Beethoven and Elgar.
They were sold to a mystery buyer, who has been told they are worth thousands.
Chris Savoury, an expert on collectable records, said: "I have studied the records and the signatures on them and I believe they are genuine."
The mystery owner bought the records from a car boot sale at Cholmondeley Castle, Cheshire.
