Princess Diana crash enquiry may cost £2 million
Aug 11, 2005, 12:32 GMT
An inquiry into the car crash that killed Britain's Princess Diana could cost close to £2 million, it was claimed yesterday (10.08.05).
According to police figures, the salaries of the Scotland Yard investigation team topped £600,000 last year - with an extra £43,000 run up on police expenses and overtime.
>From January 2004 to January 2005 costs included £28,000 on translation and £5,300 on phone charges.
Almost £40,000 was spent on refurbishing office space needed for the inquiry.
The costs of the investigation - which is expected to finish later this year - are being met by Scotland Yard.
The accident in a Paris tunnel almost eight years ago sparked scores of conspiracy theories, with many people claiming there was something more sinister behind the crash.
An investigation in France blamed Diana's chauffeur Henri Paul, alleging he had been drinking and was driving fast, but an investigation was ordered in Britain.
