Soldier involved in guarding Britain's Queen shames regiment
Aug 9, 2005, 12:02 GMT
A soldier involved in escorting and guarding Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has brought shame on an elite regiment by working as a male escort.
Corporal Carl Groomes, 32, allegedly sells his body for £150 an hour or £800 a night and advertises his services on the internet.
The soldier is with the Royal Horse Artillery, which plays a key role in state ceremonies involving the Queen.
He served as a communications expert, handling sensitive signals for the regiment in Iraq.
On his internet site - under the name "Very Well Endowed" - he brags about the size of his manhood and arranges liaisons with strangers, despite having a girlfriend.
When the soldier was found out, he told Britain's The People newspaper: "My parents and girlfriend are going to be so disappointed and I will lose my job. I am completely ashamed. I have messed up big time."
A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "We can confirm a soldier faces possible internal disciplinary action for general misconduct.
"The Army has values and standards. If he fails to live up to them, action will be taken."
