Queen Elizabeth II spends summer catching up on TV
Jul 26, 2005, 12:28 GMT
Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II will spend her summer holidays catching up on her favourite TV shows, it has been revealed.
The monarch has stocked up on hit TV detective shows to watch while she is at Balmoral, according to Britain’s The Sun newspaper.
Aides are said to have admitted the Queen favours the BBC’s ‘New Tricks’, starring Dennis Waterman and James Bolan, and ITV’s ‘Midsomer Murders’.
The Queen has also requested BBC comedy drama ‘Life Isn’t All Ha Ha Hee Hee’.
The show, written by Meera Syal – who was a guest at the Queen's reception to honour high-achieving women last year - stars Ayesha Dharkar, Laila Rouass and Sanjeev Bhaskar and follows three British-Indian friends approaching middle age and dealing with the pressures of married life.
Robert Lacey, the Queen's biographer, told Britain’s Sunday Times newspaper he was intrigued by her choice of the Syal drama.
He said: "In life the Queen takes a serious interest in how the country works and the chemistry of the country.
"Watching television is actually the best way the Queen can get in touch with the country."
