Chris Martin believes Coldplay have "everything to prove".

The 31-year-old frontman is desperate to show the band have developed creatively with their new album ''Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends'.

He said: "I feel like we've got everything to prove and everyone to prove it to this time around.

"It's an interesting time to be in a band right now. Nobody sells records, everyone's very doom and gloom all the time, and in a way we feel quite freed by that."

The band's guitarist Jonny Buckland admits they were not happy with their last album 'X and Y', despite its huge sales of 8.3 million worldwide.

He said: "It's fair to say that record was problematic. When we look back we're really not happy with the last few songs on there.

"We tried not to write too many anthems this time around. There's a danger that if you put one straight after the other, the first one doesn't sound as big."

Chris added: "We've tried to do them a bit differently this time around."

''Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends' is due to hit shelves worldwide next month.
