Jessica Simpson called ‘slutty’ by Christian group

By Cindy Locke Jun 30, 2005, 18:55 GMT

The religious organization ‘The Resistance’ wants Jessica Simpson to re-shoot a cleaner version of the promo for her latest video ‘These Boots Were Made For Walking’ and publicly apologize for her not-so-Christian performance.

The sexy video shows Simpson dressed as her Dukes of Hazzard character, Daisy Duke, washing a car in a skimpy bikini.  She also writhes around on the laps of old men and kisses Willie Nelson.

The Christian group called her video “slutty” and the Resistances spokesman John Conner is quoted by Web site the Bosh as saying, “"She should be ashamed of herself.

It's disappointing to have Jessica, a pastor's daughter and Christian role model, join the ranks of the 'singing strippers' such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.”

In my opinion God made the human body as a beautiful thing, it is humans that make it seem perverted and slutty to bare yourself.

I agree, however I don't think she needs to reshoot her video. She has turned into just another pop singer out of the mold, she started off as such a clean wholesome girl, and as a Christian that likes pop music I was hopeful she would maintain her values, but I guess money changes everything. Now she says she doesn't even consider herself 'Christian', she takes her values from 'all the worlds religions'. Whatever, just admit it Jess, the money got the best of you.

Anyone who thinks her father is still a preacher should have their head examined because he is basically a pimp. Besides, Willie looks like he is having a good time in that video. If Willie is happy, I am happy, the world is happy.

to list jessica simpsons behavior as 'slutty' is an oxymoron. these people are ridiculing a woman who was married a virgin. its how well you stick to your values, not if you wear a bikini or not, that defines your character. what makes a 'good' christian anyway? when i was in hs, the 'fellowship of christian athletes' was a total boozefest and hookup spot. shes earned the right to have some fun, cleavage and all!! you go jess!!

Why are christians so quick to pass judgement, when THAT is a very un-christian thing to do?

Okay so Christians are humans and humans make mistakes, but if Jessica is going to make a public point to be a Christian—emphasis Christian—role model then she is not only making herself accountable to her own intent and the God she serves, but also her fellow Christians. Christianity was never meant to solely be a private relationship but a public message that Jesus told his disciples to tell the world in their words and actions. If Jessica is making a public point to be a Christian in her words than clearly she is a hypocrite in her actions.

One may say that Christians should not judge one another; however, Christians are obligated by Christ to hold one another accountable to their faith message. Of course people abuse this by critically damaging and condemning others, yet to not stand up and correct another’s actions that is contrary to Christianity and in fact is not loving at all. There are those who may say she can do what she wants with her body and this is true if you are an American upholding individual rights. Yet folks she says she is a Christian and that her baptism means she does not have particular rights other than doing the will of Christ, which is completely different than the will of humankind.

Sure the body is beautiful--sex is beautiful and God created it. And those who are Christian take this to mean that the body (used in a sexual way) is for the intent of two individuals committed to one another. Perhaps this was the very thing that Jessica stood up for by being a virgin before marriage. But clearly Jessica is prostituting herself to the world and if you disagree than, of course you are entitled to your opinion, but I would be weary to say your opinion is Christian—again, the faith that Jessica is claiming. As a woman I will firmly attest that this is not an attempt to attack a woman's right to express herself, but only to press the point that her actions are indeed contrary to the faith she proclaimed.

If she were promoting secular beliefs, fine, but she promotes Christianity. That is wonderful that she was a virgin, but that is not the end-all of Christian living. I don’t doubt her faith in God, but if you are someone who wants to see Jessica live the best way she can as a Christian than you would say something just as any good friend would tell someone they were doing anything destructive to their body and their witness to their Christian faith.

Ya dont judge. If someone's beating up my brother, i wont judge or do anything. if some sleezy old guy is sexually assualting my sister, i wont judge or do anything. The bible isnt one or two verses. If you actually read the bible, you will have enough moral sense to know her video is far far from modest. I guarantee you most the guys that watch that video arnt even listening to the song. 'well thats thier fault' right? Yes but its also hers. I am more and more amazed at how morally oblivious our society is. Someone mentioned to me that shes not being slutty but being condifident. She was having issues with her self esteem but got it back. Self esteem? you think she has more self esteem because she flaunts it? Its the exact opposite, her confidence is in her current physical apperance, not in her self as a human being, a child of God. Let her get badly burnt and scarred in an accident (God forbid) and see if shes still so confident. The media is blinding us from truth. God bless the modest girl who is more concerned with pleasing God and showing herself off only to her husband. That is true beauty. Thats what Im looking for. Tell me they still exist.

Um. No. Not jealous. Im a guy, what is there to be jealous of? Your right though, she can show her body off if she wants. She can pose for playboy if she wants, even star in porn if she wants. Keep raising the bar, cuz the money gets better and better. Theres nothing illegal about it, but morally shes... well who cares about morals anyway, they're always being redifined, slowly like the water in a boiling pot. And us youth of this nation are like oblivious frogs enjoying the warmth. Does TV and pop culture define your reality? Wake up, seek truth. Free your mind. I Dont mean to get all serious about one stupid video, but cant you see that this one stupid video (not to mention all the other garbage on TV) will effect millions of people. Its subtle, but there may be millions of young christian girls out there who look up to Jessica, and see their 'christian' role model's new behavior and are suddenly confused. If I were a parent I would be upset. Im almost upset now cuz one day I do want to have kids. Woe to the parents of this generation and the ones to come.

OK let's not be judgemental, but lets be discerning. Is our society being more perverted? Yes. Are people doing what they want more and more? Yes. Values are deteriorating and people are finding more things ok. Who knows? Later on raping might be seen as ok. Actually, some people do have that view now, saying that it's merely a way for guys to satisfy their desires. God doesn't set rules just to be mean to people He made, and no He's not jealous of Jess's good bod and doesn't want her to enjoy it. He sets rules because they are good and they are good for us as people. Do you really think this world would be a better place if everyone went around doing what they want? Oh i feel like raping your daughter or sister. So what? You wonder why guys rape girls. You wonder why guys no longer care about girls the deeper way, but only want sex. That shows that showing off your body like that isn't good for her, not good for the girls or guys watching, not good for anyone. All humans do is make this world worse and worse. BAd things are caused by people. ANd then we go blaming God, when we never turned to follow Him in the first place. How can we blame God for our own choices? God knows what is best for us. And if we do what GOd wants rather than what we want, yes the world will be closer to perfection, closer to how He first intended for this world. He knows more than we do. But all that is not important. All these opinions, even my own, about Christianity are irrelevant if we do not consider Jesus Christ, that despite our rejection of Him and His ways, despite our perversion and corruption, His love for us didn't change and He paid the price for our rebellion by dying on the cross for us, so that we won't remain in this fallen state. That we can eventually go back to GOd's side, in the state of perfection that He planned for us, that wwe won't have to pay the price for our own rebellion. If you reject Jesus anyway and don't accept this gift of forgiveness that is offered by God through Him, all these opinions about Christianity is meaningless. I do pray that more and more people can be saved from hell and God's punishment, rather than stay the way they are, living their own corrupted ways by rejecting God as Creator and Ruler.

It's true then. All y'all Americans really are uptight Jesus freaks. It's no wonder Bush got re-elected just because he pandered to you all. I know nothing about christianity and haven't read the bible (I don't read fiction), but weren't Adam and Even naked until they made the mistake of eating a bit of fruit? Jessica is an incredibly beautiful woman and her career is based on that. Let's face it she's not a great singer or actress and has little intelligence. She's a babe and that's what's keeping her career going. Of all the pop babes out there she's the least slutty of them all.

I think these boots are made for walking is too sexy!
I also read Jessicas' interview in GQ. I have been a very big fan up until now!

She was quoted as saying 'Daisy Duike ain't deep' I am here to tell you that I am 31 years old and female. I found the original character of Daisy Duke empowering growing up. She was beautiful, sexy, fun, nice, honest, tough, she could drive a race car,she new when to use her sexiness to beat evil and never went across the line to vulgar.

I believe in God and overall goodness. I just think Jessica has sold out thats all. I have always thought of her as pretty and sexy. The video was too much liek a Britney video in sound and looks. Jessica did look like she was dancing for the men instead of how the Real Daisy would have done it!

Cute song, Cute girl, great car but just a little too much of Jessica. People love her less vulgar. Thats what made everyone fall in love with her.( Her ability to not cross the line but still be sexy!)

Here's a lesson for her. Katherine Bach (daisy Duke) refused a poster deal back in the days of the show. The poster company wanted her to do her shot in a bikini. Katherine said 'no Daisy wouldn't do that it is not consistant with the character' The poster company said it's our way or the highway .

So katherine borrowed a friend who was a phtogropher, did her own makeup, put on a pair of daisy dukes and a sexy but cute southern bell top and handful of wild flowers and posed in front of hay. The rest is now history. You can't buy the poster anywhere becaue no collector will part with it!

Look all the complaining aside I think the dancing up on people is silly an unnecessary as was the car wash. Does she look hot of course! I am simply stating my opinion that it is for the character too much. She does appear to contradict herself.

Either way she's making her own bed let her do it.

I will stick to my Dukes of Hazzard DVD's.

Ps

I am no prude I am a former model who has posed in Playboy several times. But I never pretend to be anything I am not.
I am a real broadcaster who has done many things but I have learned to be careful about my choices and what I say. I think sexuality is good but there is a line.

This whole idea of trying to re do a great family classic that is not to prudish is dumb in the first place

i researched what 'the resistance manifesto' is and everyone should know: a group fixed on conspiracy theories and on taking the government back into the hands of God. they believe george bush a satanic antichrist!(i didn't vote for him, but thats NOT ok!) john connor, the group spokesman, even ASKED JESSICA TO JOIN their group after the criticism, to help them expose the '9/11 cover-up', suggesting she use her celeb status to do so. riiiight, call her a slut then ask her to join and maybe she'll think its ok. they also called her dad a creep and tom cruise a satanist. jessicas video is appropriately fun and sexy for a girl with her age, talent, and bombshell looks. wearing skimpy clothes in a video does NOT make her slutty. this article is talking smack, plain and simple. thinking jessicas video is too risque` is fine, it surprised even me. just judge it with class, and don't let the disrespectful words of nutjobs like this exaggerate your opinion. she showed some skin, but thats a far stretch to go from monogamous married woman to 'singing stripper' and 'whore'. what a joke! and who made her a pillar for prudent virtue anyway? she stuck to the no premarital sex vow, but that didn't automatically mean she said she would follow all conservative christian norms modestly forever, her tastes are allowed to change; one belief does not define everything about that person. everyone gets to have an opinion, i just wish they would try seeing it from what her perspective might be first! go jess, do whatever you want!

Whether you like and agree with her, or dislike and disagree with her, she is a public figure and is rightly defined by her behavior and style of dress, or undress. If she wants to be defined as a Christian, then she must follow those guidelines for behavior and dress. There are definitive lines that cannot be crossed and still be taken seriously as a Christian. These are not as gray or ambiguous as many would like to believe and, since God is the standard, there can be little debate regarding appropriate and inappropriate bahavior and dress. Simpson hasn't pushed the tenets of Cristian attitude and spiritual relationship, she has ignored them and gone far beyond anything realistic and acceptable. Yes, God loves her immeasureably, but that doesn't mean He's a fan. I know I'm not.

The way those two girls act in this world is an abomination to the Lord God. I don't believe any true believer in the Lord Jesus Christ would ever act like that nor flash your flesh like these girls do. There are many counterfeit Christians in this world that say they are Christian and this family falls into that category . The Lord says, 'you will know them by their fruits' is something that a true believer can see in the way that people act in the world
