Ruben Studdard in legal battle with manager

American Idol winner Ruben Studdard has filed a complaint on Monday in Birmingham, Alabama, alleging his ex-manager, Ronald W. Edwards, committed identity theft and stole over $200,000 from the singer.According to the complaint, Edwards forged paperwork giving himself power of attorney over Studdard’s finances and then charged $105,000 on credit cards and wrote $150,000 worth of bad checks.Edwards denies the allegations and filed a countersuit in March claiming Studdard actually owes him money. He then filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on June 17th.Studdard’s lawyer, Vic Hayslip, has said the Chapter 7 filing was just an attempt to avoid giving a deposition in the lawsuit.
