Hotel concierge suing Russell Crowe
By Cindy Locke Jun 28, 2005, 20:49 GMT
After the infamous telephone throwing incident, New York hotel employee Nestor Estrada is suing Russell Crowe for hitting him in the face with the phone.
The suit will claim that Crowe also threw a ceramic bowl at Estrada after he hit him with the phone. The whole ordeal was caught on hotel security videotape and was witnessed by two people.
The witnesses also state that Crowe took a bow and assumed a karate stance afterward.
Settlement talks between Estrada and Crowe’s attorneys hit a dead-end. The suit is likely to seek punitive and compensatory damages.
The only comment Crowe’s lawyer, Gerald Lefcourt, would give was through a statement: “Russell Crowe went on three national television programs apologizing for the incident and making amends and he is trying to put it behind him.”
Estrada's attorney, Eric Franz, told the New York Daily News, "I'll do my talking through the legal process."
A spokesman for Crowe said that a hotel employee was not helpful and had displayed "attitude" as Crowe had sought help in placing a call to Australia to speak with his wife, Danielle Spencer, and their 17-month-old son, Charlie.

Just because Russel Crowe is a celebrity does not mean that he shouldn't be punished for what he did. It was wrong. Apologies on talk shows won't do anything. I think the hotel concierge should sue.
Two more citizens who hope they never get hauled before a court, because if it hits the news everyone will know they are guilty, despire protestations and video.
The idea of court is that you are innocent until proven guilty. Do the media tell the truth? If you think they do, you aren't living on this planet. Let's wait and see what the evidence says, not what the media machine contrives.
i agree let the evidence talk... It does not justify the alleged actions, however if i was paying that much for a room i would expect to have a phone. Crowe was just stupid, he could have had the guy fired right then and there... serves him right i guess
Crowe should sue the hotel in return. 3000 bucks a day that is outrageous. 55 bucks a day motels have phones that work with no hassle. Crowe should sue the Hotel. Crowe was certainly provoked by the hotel worker. If someone calls you a b******* and you hit him, are you at fault ? If 911 did not work on your phone will you not sue the phone company, imagine it is charging you 10 dollars per call. Why should everyone look at Crowe as a rich guy who has no respect for others, simply because he is rich. Crowe can claim insanity at the time of incident, because the circumstances can make anyone go insane at that moment.

Yes we all go around hurting clerks when they are rude to us. I am being sarcastic. The hotel staff will have to start posting signs saying WATCH OUT FOR FLYING PHONES.
