Hulk Hogan Urges Jones To End Cock-Fighting

Apr 9, 2005, 8:16 GMT

Pro-wrestling star Hulk Hogan has written an angry letter to Roy Jones Jr lambasting the boxer for buying a Los Angeles cock-fighting pit.

Animal rights activists The Humane Society asked Hogan - real name Terry Bollea - to write Jones the letter, because he is a devoted bird lover who lives with a rooster called Lily, reports website Pagesix.com.

Hogan hopes Jones, who based his boxing moves on fighting cocks, will take notice of a fellow ring legend telling him to stop raising roosters on his Florida farm for cruel cock-fights.

Hogan's letter reads, "Cockfighting is cruel. It's not a sport. And it's not something a champion like you should be involved in. Lay off defenceless animals."

There are those that think cock fighting is what roosters were born to do. Roosters were born to crow in the mornings in order to get hard working men and women up and out at the farm. I am not one of those die hard fanatics but what I am is a parent that is concerned for the new generation of cock fight lovers. My husband and I have a grown daughter that has become involved in this illegal activity. And although we are concerned where this may lead HER because her boy lover has decided this will make them rich, it goes deeper in that she is grown and can make her own choices and have to live with those choices, he and she have now decided to involve our less than 1 year old grandchild. Our grandchild doesn't have a choice. If they are caught cock fighting in the State of Florida they are looking at multiple felonies. Then our grandchild faces Department of Children and Family interference and us fighting to save her = which we would gladly do - but who's to say how long it will take for us to get her in our custody before more damage is done. We need someone to help us. They are fighting and raising these roosters in Perry, Florida. And for those who think the roosters were born to do this take a look at the paraphenalia that MAN has places on them. I don't think they were born with knives, blades, and/or needles attached to where their spurs are supposed to be. Please email us with any information you can to help us put a scare into the two of these kids before it's too late. Thanks

I have read many things and I am very tired of hearing about how chicken fighting is not right. Cock fighting is a great sport that dates back before the bible was even written. A chicken will fight no matter what, it's their nature and instinct to fight other roosters. We do not make these cocks fight, nor train them to fight, they are born with it all we do is just get them healthy before they fight. Stop crying about cock fights and chickens and start thinking about our troops overseas being killed, they are trained to fight and kill, chickens are not!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm completely astounded at the level of ignorance that is being displayed here! I cannot believe that man is so arrogant to take the lives of animals into their own hands and be OK with it!The instinct to fight as I'm echoing is for a pecking order in the flock. And they do it without harming the other rooster! No razors, no blades, and they're not confined in a small space and forced to fight. And no, it has not been around as long as the bible! And I don't think our lord would approve of the slaugther of his creations for sport! Again, it's a human arrogance and that my friend is a sin! Please educate yourselves!

I was born and raised my whole life around game fowl. I am now a youth pastor at a baptist church and do not participate in cock fighting now. But, I do not think that it is my place to tell another person if it is right or wrong. From a Biblical standing one can't say if it is right or wrong. The Bible teaches that we should care for our animals and make sure they are healthy and not malnurished or beaten. And I can personally tell you that most game fowl breeders take better care and spend more time with these animals than alot of people do with their children. Also the male game fowl do fight instinctively. When they become about 5-10 months old they must be caught and placed in seperate cages or you will come home to find that several of them have faught till death or until they are so beat up that they will eventually die. They do not form a pecking order. So if it were not for game fowl breeders this species would most likely become extinct.
On a more important note. I feel like God would be discusted to think that I spent my time telling someone to fight or not fight chickens when I should be spending my time witnessing for the cause of Christ. And be telling people of God's plan for salvation. Not if they should or shouldn't test their game fowl against someone elses.
