Lil' Kim Trial Gets Underway

The jury has been selected in the court case against rapper Lil' Kim and her personal assistant, who face charges of perjury.Kim is accused of lying during a grand jury setup to investigate a shootout outside a New York radio station in 2001.Prosecutors accuse the two of telling lies to protect members of Kim's entourage involved in the shooting.The incident took place outside Hot 97 station where members of rap group Junior M.A.F.I.A had been performing, after leaving the studio the group and a rival one were involved in a shootoutLil' Kim (real name Kimberly Jones) is charged with conspiracy, three counts of perjury, three counts of making false statements and one count of obstruction. The various charges carry possible prison terms of between five and ten years. Both women deny the charges. Opening statements are due to begin tomorrow.
