Bashir Tries to Avoid Testifying at Jackson Trial
By James Wray Jan 20, 2005, 4:25 GMT
The UK journalist Martin Bashir has requested that he not have to give evidence at Michael Jackson's child abuse trial.
Prosecutors in the case against the singer want Bashir to testify regards what he saw and heard while in Jackson's company, things perhaps not broadcast.
Bashir made a documentary, "Living With Michael Jackson," where he spent some days traveling with the Jackson as well as at his ranch. Jackson spoke several times about sleeping in the same room as some of the children who visited Neverland.
Bashir said the documentary "speaks for itself" and asked a judge to turn down the request for him to testify. A decision will be made at a hearing at the end of the month.
Jackson denies all charges of child molestation and conspiracy.
