Zeppelin influenced a generation of musicians |
British band Led Zeppelin were British guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant, John Bonham on drums and John Paul Jones on bass.
Their most famous song, witness 'Wayne's World,' Stairway to Heaven, stills tops most polls taken to find the greatest song ever.
"These profoundly inspiring figures are being honoured as legendary performers and archetypal musicians, cultural ambassadors, and technical visionaries," Recording Academy president Neil Portnow said.
"Their outstanding accomplishments and passion for their craft have created a timeless legacy that has positively affected multiple generations, and will continue to influence generations to come."
Others honourees include composer Martin Gould, jazz innovator Jelly Roll Morton, country music stars the Carters and gospel legends the Staple Sisters.
The awards ceremony will be on 12 February, one day before the Grammy Awards as well as on the night.
