Diane Kruger didn't want to go out with Joshua Jackson.

The model-turned-actress 'didn't much like' the 'Dawson's Creek' star - who she has now been with for seven years - and was counting down the time until she could politely end their first date, but didn't have the heart to turn down his dinner plans.

Recalling their disastrous first date in an interview with 'Frankfurter Allgemeine', she said: 'It was a funny situation. I thought he would just come over for a drink; I was living in a hotel at the time. And I hadn't intended to have dinner with him because I didn't like him that much.

'I didn't want to go out with him. We were sitting in the hotel bar and I was already checking my watch because I had something else planned. But I didn't want to break his heart either when he told me he had made a reservation at a fancy restaurant.'

The German beauty had a severe allergic reaction to the flowers in the gourmet eatery and couldn't wait to get home, so when Joshua lunged at her at the end of the night she 'rushed' away and vowed never to see him again.

She laughed: 'It was the worst evening we have ever spent together. Our first date was a real disaster.

'The worst thing was that he even tried to kiss me when he had taken me home. I said, 'Are you kidding me?' And then I rushed out of the car.'

However, Diane - who claims the most attractive quality in a man is a good sense of humour - was won over by her eager suitor when he sent her a joke present the next day.

She confessed: 'After our first date, he got me flowers and a box of tissues with it. He has made me laugh from the beginning.'
