Seth MacFarlane should have been a passenger on one of the doomed 9/11 flights.

The 'Family Guy' creator had been booked to travel on one of the two planes which were hijacked by terrorist group al-Qaeda and crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City in 2001 but he missed his flight because he arrived 15 minutes late due to a bad hangover.

A source told the National Enquirer magazine: 'By all rights, Seth shouldn't be here. He missed the plane [to New York] because he was out boozing the night before the flight and got to the airport late.

'His travel agent was half-hour off on the departure time, but he still shouldn't have been cutting it that close.'

Seth, 39, later admitted he felt 'very, very, very lucky' to have avoided the horrific incident which left thousands dead.

The funnyman's latest stint was hosting the Academy Awards in Hollywood last month and the star has since come under fire for his risqué humour and mischievous songs, such as his 'We Saw Your Boobs' tribute to actresses who have gone topless on screen.

However, many insiders are supportive of Seth's performance and praised him for his daring jokes.

One filmmaker said: 'I don't blame Seth. He basically did his stock and trade. Why hire the guy if you didn't want his brand of humour? I actually thought, as a fan of 'Family Guy,' that he was pretty restrained.'
