Mel C has been named Celebrity Mum of the Year.

The Spice Girl topped the poll by supermarket Tesco to find the most inspirational famous mothers, and credited her three-year-old daughter Scarlet - whose father is Melanie's ex-boyfriend Thomas Starr - with boosting her self-confidence and happiness.

Speaking at The Savoy Hotel in London yesterday (17.02.13), she told the Daily Express newspaper: 'I am so much happier, more confident and courageous and it's all thanks to Scarlet. Being with my family is the most important thing in my life. It's sometimes difficult to find a balance with work and other commitments, so I make sure I treasure every second.

'Being a mum might not be easy, but it's definitely the most rewarding job in the world. There are millions of inspirational mums out there, doing incredible things to help others. It's fantastic to be involved with something that celebrates this.'

The 39-year-old singer - otherwise known as Sporty Spice - joins six other mothers who will pick up Tesco awards at the star-studded ceremony on March 3 at The Savoy Hotel

The event will be screened on Channel 5 for Mother's Day (10.03.13).
