Dustin Hoffman thinks his 'soul expands' as he grows older.

The 75-year-old actor - who has been married to second wife Lisa since 1980 - isn't concerned about his advancing years because he is 'growing and expanding' as a person, especially as he is aware of the differences in how the sexes lead their lives.

He said: 'I wouldn't trade now for anything. What we all want is to continually grow and expand. I've discovered that as the body becomes more limited, the soul expands.

'I think men are the weaker of the genders and live a more limited life than women. For whatever reasons, men run from intimacy. If you run from intimacy, you're running from what life can give you.'

And Dustin - who has been awarded the Breakthrough Accomplishment' honour for his directorial debut 'Quartet' at AARP's Movies for Grownups Awards - still feels he has a big part of his life to live.

He told the publication: 'During film I was saying to everybody in the cast, 'We're all in the same act together.' I always think it's a three-act play and we're in the second act - the third act being something that alters you, some infirmity or whatever. And somebody responded, 'Maybe it's a Shakespearean play with five acts.' I liked that. Maybe I've got three more acts.'

Other recipients of the awards - which honour outstanding films with storylines, performances and filmmaking that have distinct relevance to the 50+ audience - included 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel', which picked up Best Movie for Grownups and Best Actress 50+ for its star Dame Judi Dench, and 'Flight', which scooped Best Actor 50+ and Best Supporting Actor 50+ for Denzel Washington and John Goodman respectively.
