Vanessa Lachey told husband Nick she was pregnant during a romantic getaway.

The actress - who gave birth to the couple's first child, Camden John Lachey, in September 2012 - found out she was expecting while in New York City but wanted to tell her spouse the happy news in person.

She added on her blog: 'Nick was already in the Bahamas with the whole family waiting for me. I knew I had to wait to tell him in person. I wanted to look into his eyes when I said, 'I'm pregnant'.

'I wanted to feel his hug when he grabbed me with excitement. I wanted to take in the surroundings so that I would always remember the exact moment I told him he was going to be a father.'

The expectant mother was bursting to share the news with Nick, 39, and following a flight to join him - which felt like an 'absolute eternity' - she finally told him the good news during a romantic walk on the beach.

She said: 'I changed into my beach clothes and asked Nick if he wanted to go for a walk on the beach. All I kept thinking about was this little life inside of me that we made.

'I took a deep breath, grabbed his hands, looked him in the eyes and told him 'I'M PREGNANT!' He looked at me and asked if I was serious. I said yes. We hugged and then he said, 'I think I have to sit down!'

Nick and Vanessa met on the set of his music video for 'What's Left of Me' in 2006. He was previously married to pop star Jessica Simpson.
