Michelle Williams battled for years with depression.

The Destiny's Child singer - who found fame with the girl band when she was just 18-years-old - admits she was told to find help in Christianity but she advised other sufferers to seek medical advice straight away.

She said: 'I've dealt with depression. I had to choose to get out of bed and do whatever I needed to do to be happy. We're taught, 'Just go to church and pray about it. The Lord is going to heal you.'

'In the meantime, I believe Godgifted people, physicians, doctors, therapists - that's your healing. Take advantage of it. Go see a professional.

'It's OK if you are going through something. Depression is not OK but it is OK to go get help.'

The 32-year-old singer - who has reunited with her former bandmates Beyonce and Kelly Rowland to release new song 'Nuclear' - says her fourth solo album is nearly finished and was inspired by her struggle with depression.

She told the Huffington Post: 'Sometimes you are going to wake up on the wrong side of the bed or some situation than might have you down in the dumps but you have to choose to be happy.

'I'm choosing life. And I'm hoping this album makes people want to choose life.'
