Megan Fox no longer idolises Marilyn Monroe.

The 'Transformers' actress - who is famed for her super sexy image - has a portrait of her former idol, 50s pin-up Marilyn, tattooed on her right forearm, but has since changed her mind about her Hollywood inspiration and is in the process of getting the inking removed.

The 26-year-old star told the new US issue of Esquire magazine: 'I started reading about her and realised that her life was incredibly difficult. It's like when you visualise something for your future. I didn't want to visualise something so negative.'

Megan lamented Marilyn's early death aged 36 and said she had 'all the potential in the world' before it was 'wasted'.

She went on to liken the star to troubled 26-year-old actress Lindsay Lohan - who is frequently embroiled in legal and financial dramas - and insists the two starlets have walked a similar path.

Megan added: 'She wasn't powerful at the time. She was sort of like Lindsay. She was an actress who wasn't reliable, who almost wasn't insurable ... She had all the potential in the world, and it was squandered. I'm not interested in following in those footsteps.'

The brunette beauty - who has four-month-old son Noah with her husband Brian Austin Green - has had several laser sessions to remove Marilyn's face from her arm and admits the procedure is one of the most painful things she has experienced.

She said last year: 'It hurts really bad. It's really painful. Getting them is not that bad, obviously, because I have so many. I can't explain the exact science to you, but when the laser hits the ink on your skin it kind of explodes and looks like little kernels of popcorn popping up.

'It's traumatic and it's incredibly painful. They can't numb it enough to make the pain go away.'
